Moms night out!
Did anyone see that movie? I feel like it was pretty accurate, maybe not verbatim, but still pretty much the basic idea of how a moms night pans out. The thing is, I haven't actually gone out with other moms. For some reason its just super tricky finding a night where everyone has a sitter or arrangements for their babies. I usually go out with my non-parent friends, almost always to a karaoke bar. Yep, I'm one of those people. Before I had the girls, even while I was pregnant, I frequented either Chopsticks or The Alibi for karaoke fun and frivolity! I recall going on my birthday when I was pregnant and after finishing Envogue's Whats it gonna be, an older gentleman came up to me as I left the mic and offered to buy me a shot. Uh....no thanks, but you can put another Shirley Temple on my tab, if you want!
Most recently, Ed and I had a date night so we could go out with a friend for her birthday and to celebrate her acception into a local midwifery school. We went to chopsticks, naturally. I will tell you that the one common theme among my nights out after babies is that I'm lame. I can hang pretty well until about 10, 10:30 tops. Any later than that, and I'm staring at the clock wondering why the hell I'm not in bed. I still have a blast, don't get me wrong; but I'm getting older and I'm just freaking exhausted all the damn time!

One thing I found humerous about this most recent outing was that, despite my girls being over at grandma and grandpas for the night, I still wound up taking care of two other humans that night/morning. Two friends stayed the night (so as not to drink and drive), and the next morning I was up at about 9 making bacon and eggs for everyone. So apparently that doesn't just shut off when your kid free ;-)
As silly as it seems, I feel like it's good for me to be forced into social situations outside my new norm. I often worry that once the girls are older and out of the house more, I'll have lost all my normal social skills and be left with the weird/awkward quirks I whip out in the comforts of my home. So I guess these impromptu outings are keeping me sharp...or sharp enough to where people can still stand to be around me.... Let's just say I'm a talker!
